Polygon plans to launch its most complex hard fork yet on July 10, introducing the Heimdall 2.0 consensus layer to its proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain. This upgrade replaces legacy infrastructure from 2018 to 2019 to improve network stability, finality, and user experience.
Sandeep Nailwal, CEO of the Polygon Foundation, called Heimdall 2.0 the most technologically advanced improvement since the company's start in 2020. The update will reduce block finality to about five seconds and chain reorganizations to a little more than two blocks, dramatically increasing bridge security and overall network dependability.
Most validators have already been prepared. Node operators need to upgrade their systems as soon as possible. The mainnet upgrade is estimated to take approximately 30 minutes. However, customers should expect up to three hours of delayed completion during the process. Nailwal underlined the importance of community readiness, urging operators to test and report any difficulties as soon as possible.
This technical milestone follows a leadership change at Polygon Foundation, with Sandeep Nailwal assuming the role of CEO to accelerate innovation in the layer-2 blockchain industry.
