Ethereum's planned Fusaka upgrade has advanced with a fresh testnet release from Nimbus. This Ethereum consensus layer client debuted version "v25.9.1."
While Ethereum mainnet users utilizing Nimbus do not need to upgrade immediately, the update is crucial for testnets. Testnets such as Hoodi, Sepolia, and Holesky are part of Fusaka's testing phase. Holesky will step down on September 30 and be replaced by Hoodi.
Fusaka expands on the previous Pectra update, increasing scalability and node robustness. It introduces Peer-to-Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS). PeerDAS reduces data storage loads by allowing nodes to validate a subset of blocks rather than downloading all block data. This strategy improves efficiency and bandwidth.
The November upgrade includes features such as EIP-7892, set to provide a reliable Ethereum network and prevent decentralized apps from disruptions. Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated that Fusaka is critical for scaling and enhancing data availability. Vitalik claims it marks a significant milestone for the network. Developers are still testing to ensure that the deployment goes well and the network remains stable.
